This morning I attended Macmillans Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning, at my local event at Walmsley Parish Church Hall, organised by Anne Windsor from Egerton. I would just like to say a big thankyou to all those who made me feel so welcome, and made it such a great event and a lovely morning.

Attached is a photo of Anne, who organised the event, with Elsie and Evie the oldest and youngest attendees, and myself.

I have also posted below the press release that has been sent to Bolton News for you all to have a look at.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning took place on Friday 25th October. Across the country, and in several other parts of the world, thousands of people held or attended coffee mornings to raise money for people affected by cancer. All funds raised from these events went directly to the Macmillan cause.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer affects everyone, and Macmillan offers support to all.

Attending a local event in Bolton was Deborah Dunleavy the Conservative Prospective MP for Bolton North East. Miss Dunleavy attended the event at Walmsley Parish Church Hall which was organised by local lady Anne Windsor who lives in Egerton.

Miss Dunleavy said

“ It was a pleasure to support the Macmillian cause and it was a delight to see so many others there supporting it today. The eldest supporter there was Elsie Handly and the youngest Evie Mangnall, what a great range of ages all supporting this wonderful cause. Cancer charities have a special place in my heart, I’ve lost 2 very young cousins in their 20s and 30s to breast cancer so I always make a special effort to support them.”

Shadow Minister Visits Bolton

Shadow Minister Visits Leighs Paints

We’ve just had a visit from Mark Hoban MP Shadow secretary to the Treasury. Mark was here to meet with several businesses who have been affected by credit. More than anything they wanted to feel that they were being listened to and that they were being told the truth.

They felt that the current Labour government were being honest with them, that they were trying to pull the wool over their eyes. They wanted to be treated with some respect – don’t we all…….

Later that day we  went to visit Leighs Paints  – an institution in Bolton and they gave us the request. People just want to be treated with respect whether they be business people or the ordinary man or woman in the street. They are tired of Labour propaganda that offers nothing but un truths about Tory Cuts – as I said aren’t we all…..

A hectic week…..again…

It’s been non stop since I got back off holiday, straight into the campaign for the Crompton By Election. Labour’s sitting Councillor is stepping down and this has brought us a By Election.

We have a fabulous candidate in Kath Kavanagh, a local lady on a mission and I know if elected she will work incredibly hard for the people of Crompton Ward.

Tomorrow I have Mark Hoban MP Shadow Secretary to the Treasury here in Bolton. We have a busy day planned for Mark with meetings with several local businesses through the day, all of whom have problems not being dealt with by the current Labour government. More on that after tomorrow……

When I got home from canvassing last night I had a bit of a shock, my 11 year old daughter Isabella thrust her new Geography book at me and said  ” look Mum, I’ve put you and Gordon Brown on the back of my Geography book “

“What” I said with horror on my face “Why have you put Gordon Brown on your Geography book?”

“Because my teacher said to put 2 politicians that are opposite to one another, so I put you and Gordon Brown”

Sense at last I thought, my views couldn’t be more opposite to his. Once again we have had a week of jumping from one thing to another in attempt to appease himself to the electorate. I do believe in conviction politicians, I know we’re all wrong some of the time and right some of the time, but if we don’t have true believes for the right reasons and the conviction to stick to those values – what do we have…….

Back off Holiday

Well…..I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything for a few weeks but I’ve been on holiday to France for a couple of weeks. We drove over in the car to an area in the Dordogne myself, Mark and my daughters Isabella and Scarlett. My son Olly and his girlfriend also joined us for a week in the middle of the holiday.

I do like to holiday in France, I not only like the food and the wine of course but I like the culture. I didn’t see any youths out binge drinking or other such trouble. Their sense of community is one which I would like to see grown over here, also the family unit is cherished and it’s just a way of life how they all do things together.

Eating together is a big event everyday, I’m a strong believer in that myself and although I find it difficult to do a lot of the time with the children as they want their tea as they come in from school, I do my best to sit down and eat with Mark every night and just catch up on the events of the day.

Another thing that struck me as we travelled over there by car, was how good their infrastructure was. Not only are the roads excellent and constantly maintained, but their rail service is also good.

We travelled back by car but on the train – what a good idea and how well organised it was. No hold ups, on time and breakfast provided on arrival with no waiting and hot drinks all round.

Here is a picture of me with Mark and my girls out having dinner one night in a typically French Restaurant which is family owned and run.

A great family holiday
